Jamie Ash

Student Testimonials
I recently took a book arts workshop from Jamie Ash on pop-up techniques and, as a teacher myself, I was very taken both by her generosity of spirit and her natural instincts as a teacher: She paid close attention to each student, offered specific, helpful responses to each of our questions and confusion, but never took over our projects--she always made sure that we, as students, took each next step ourselves while also creating an atmosphere of fun and adventure. This is the way a person really learns.
She also provided excellent support by offering clear and precise collateral material like helpful diagrams, extra supplies for less prepared participants, multiple example pieces of different stages in the creation process and great reference books.
I wouldn't hesitate to take a class from her again.

I was fortunate to attend Jamie's Taos Book Arts class and was inspired and impressed with her enthusiasm for Book Arts and her immense knowledge of the art form. Her enthusiasm was evidenced by the time and effort she put into making a meticulously detailed stencil for each student to use and take home. Her teaching style is very "hands on" as she finds time to work independently with each student to insure they understand the concepts. Jamie is a true "creative" whose life experience in the arts is evidenced by her knowledge of and enthusiasm for her subject.

I’ve had the privilege of both sponsoring and participating in art classes taught by Jamie Ash since 2008, and I can confidently say she is a rare find—an exceptional professional artist who is also an extraordinary teacher. Jamie’s passion for teaching is not just evident, but contagious. Her artwork is visually stunning, rich in meaning, and showcases impeccable craftsmanship.
One of Jamie’s greatest strengths is her ability to meet each student exactly where they are. Whether someone is a beginner just discovering book arts or an experienced practitioner, she ensures that everyone feels seen, engaged, and encouraged. She creates an inclusive space where all approaches are valued. Jamie’s teaching fosters self-confidence, particularly for those unfamiliar with the tools, language, and expression of book art. Over the years I’ve learned from Jamie, she has not only challenged me but also helped me find my own creative voice through her generosity as a teacher.
